Youth charities in the North East will share a £10,000 grant to support young people, after True Potential’s charitable arm, the Harrison Foundation, completed its latest round of donations.

Beneficiaries include the Denton Youth & Community Project (DYCP) on Tyneside and youth development charity, NE Youth, after the Harrison Foundation selected them for the work they do with young people in their communities.

The funding, made via the Foundation’s sister organisation, the Harrison Centre for Social Mobility, takes total donations to almost £600,000 over the last two years.

The Harrison Foundation supports a wide range of charities and organisations each year and places a particular emphasis on those that provide practical support to young people.

Trustee Daniel Harrison said: “There are so many unsung heroes out there who quietly get on with making an important difference to young people’s skills and opportunities. We are especially interested in those that can show the impact they have in helping to level up their communities and support people into work.”

NE Youth is celebrating its 85th anniversary this year and works to make sure all young people have the opportunities they deserve, and to get involved in their communities, enjoy their lives and achieve their potential.

CEO Jon Niblo said: “NE Youth were delighted to receive our most recent grant from the Harrison Centre for Social Mobility. The award will enable us to kick start the Healthy and Happy programme, which will provide young people with new programmes and projects in their communities.”

Elsewhere the Denton Youth & Community Project, based in Newcastle’s Outer West, aims to establish early engagement with individuals and to maintain long-term contact, so that they get not only the best possible start in life but also opportunities to remain connected to their communities. DYCP has worked with 6,492 Individuals since 2010.

Manager Dave Hewitt added: “In these extremely challenging financial times, having the support from organisations such as the Harrison Centre for Social Mobility enables us to support local communities by offering much needed support and services, particularly to children, young people and their families.

“The staff, trustees, volunteers and those people who access our services are so grateful for the continued and valuable support we receive.
